We are a group of professional musicians who live and work in the Capital Region of New York.


Scott Halliday - Trumpet



Dave Hosley - Trumpet

David Hosley has conducted the University at Albany Jazz Ensemble for the past twenty years and also given trumpet lessons at SUNY Albany. Mr. Hosley recently retired from teaching instrumental music in the East Greenbush Central School District for over thirty years.

He received his Bachelor of Music from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and his Master of Science in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany. Mr. Hosley is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, New York State School Music Association, and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.

Mr. Hosley has performed with the Joey Thomas Band and the Dyanne Marlowe Big Band of the Northeast on trumpet and piano and has been a studio musician for Spectrum Studios in Lanesboro, MA. He received an award from the BET Jazz Channel for jazz instrumental performance with the Joe Finn Jazz Quartet. Mr. Hosley has appeared as a guest conductor for the Rensselaer County High School Jazz Ensemble. He continues to perform on a regular basis with his own band, Top Shelf, and the Dominant Five Brass Quintet.

Sue Wheeler - Horn

Susan Wheeler, French horn, has taught band, chorus, and general music for the Brittonkill, Guilderland, North Colonie, NY and Pittsfield, MA School Districts.  Currently, she teaches privately.  She performs with the Capital Region Wind Ensemble, the Dominant 5 Brass Quintet, and the Mohawk Horn Quartet.

Jon Kusche - Trombone



Michael Blostein - Tuba

As a tuba player, Mr. Blostein has performed with the Berkshire Symphony and the Heavy Metal Brass Quintet, in addition to his work with the Dominant Five. He also actively performs on bass trombone with the Georgie Wonders Orchestra, and is active as a private low brass instructor. His major teachers have been Peter Popeil, Cherry Beauregard and Enrique "Hank" Feldman. Mr. Blostein currently teaches at Averill Park High School.
